David is Chief Innovation Officer and Director of the Office of Innovation and Commercialization at the University of Hawaii System (UH), which he joined in March 2018. Prior to joining UH, he was Director of Knowledge Transfer at the City University of Hong Kong. David also worked for Stanford’s Office of Technology Licensing for six years, managing inventions while spearheading Stanford’s technology marketing effort in China.
Previously, David was Chief Advisor at Hitachi Corporate VC, where he scored two successful acquisitions and one IPO among the four VC investments he led.
He founded an award-winning e-healthcare business in Beijing, and as CEO he secured a $6M VC investment in the first foreign-invested cancer center in Shanghai. In the 1990s, he was VP/GM at Varian Medical (NYSE: VAR), VP of Marketing at Cirque (acquired by ALPS Japan), and a Project Manager at Hewlett-Packard.
He is a registered patent attorney (California), and an international expert in the diverse areas of innovation, law, business, technology and startups and VC investments.
In his capacity as Chair of the International Strategy Portfolio, David oversees the African, Canadian, Australia-Asia, European and Latin American Region Committees.
